The Maywood Longboard is a 1940's inspired Pig style hull bottom with some more modern tweaks.
A traditional pig style longboard generally has the widest point well further towards the tail from mid point. This allows for a rounder plan shape near the fin area for faster rail to rail turns when keeping the back foot over the fin. These boards can also be ridden on the nose as they are generally paired up with a larger D style fin, hatchet fin or up to 11" raked flex fin that allows the tail to remain locked into the wave while your body weight is up on the nose. The hull bottom (convex shape) allows for faster, little twitchy turns in the pocket to readjust your positioning on the wave when needed and keep you in the pocket where the power source of the wave. Once these boards gain momentum they can begin to move faster than the wave. Once out on the shoulder the pinched 50/50 rails allow the board to slice through the water much the same way that your fin does which helps give drive through a longer more powerful turn.
Overall the Maywood log is unreal value having both double stringer and volan glass on the bottom allowing for extra strength.
